Хурма (khurma): street name…PERSIMMONS

I thought these things being sold on every street corner in Odessa were just scary tomatoes, but actually it is a very delicious fruit that I have been addicted to lately. Sweet, smooth, and creamy—the texture does take some getting used to. I’ve heard of persimmons before but never noticed them in U.S. grocery stores. Are they there? I sure hope so or else I might go through withdrawals when I return. They are very popular this time of year (November/December) in Ukraine, especially in cities near the Crimea or Georgia where they are grown.
